Two helicopters collide while landing in the Everest region, one tourist dead

Tuesday morning in Nepal’s Everest region turned tragic. Just after 8:12 a.m. on November 3, two helicopters, one from Fishtail Air and one from Dynasty Air, crashed into each other as they came in to land at Pheriche helipad in Solukhumbu.

Officials say the rotor blades of the two aircraft hit each other during landing. A 47-year-old Indian tourist identified as Vasanth Kumar Balaramudu of Chennai, lost his life. 2 pilots and another passenger were hurt and taken for treatment.

The Civil Aviation Authority of Nepal (CAAN) has opened a formal investigation to find out exactly what went wrong.
